Installing from a usb-stick using either of the 2 way on this link:
http://www.debian.org/releases/sarge/i386/ch04s04.html
I have the following problem:
Boots is OK, I can choose language, keyboard, but then the
netinst.iso which is on the stick is not founded by the installer.
I tried on 2 different boxes, with either stable or testing netinst iso.
Can you give me a hint on what's going on.
Thierry
I don't have access to a Debian mirror, so it won't work. I think it's
not working because I have copied a "raw" iso image and not an image
itself. The problem is that I know how to do it properly on a CD but not
on a stick. Any one with a hint?
You probably didn't copy correctly to the stick. The iso is a raw image
of the files. When you burn a cd, the bits of an iso image get copied
directly to the cd, including partition table.
With the stick, the methods listed should produce the same thing. If
you mount the stick after copying iso or files to it as listed, can you
see them on /dev/sda1 (assuming you don't have other scsi devices)?
I.e.:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
ls /mnt
You should see the the files shown, such as vmlinuz, initrd.gz, and
syslinux.cfg. If not, you didn't write the stick correctly, and should
try again.
If the stick is correctly configured, the problem is somehwere else
(obvious, I know :-)
