Thanks to all for info and links.
Did the upgrade and updated grub and /etc/modules, no problems.
This is my first install with grup, always used lilo. Can anyone tell me
how to turn off ACPI and set smaller fonts?
I have no X installed so smaller fonts on the console would be nice.
