You are right.  I hadn't checked the rpm carefully enough.  The files
/usr/share/mc/* are in fact missing from that package, so the problem was 
not in the conversion.  In order to get "wajig rpm2deb" to work I had to 
install alien, so wajig presumably does use alien.
