I'm running testing (etch) on x86. About a week ago, possibly Wednesday 16/11 (sorry, I can't be more precise), after updating my packages, I've started having problems with "flickering" in X. The trouble is, I can't pinpoint the problem down. I'd be happy to file a bug report, if only I could understand what's wrong.
I spotted the problem during a gnome session: at each keystroke the screen flickers and goes like this (sorry for the poor ascii rendition, I don't know how else to explain it) +-----------------------------------+ | | | | /-----------------------------------/ ( ( | | | | | | | | +-----------------------------------+ for a moment. Sometimes (but rarely) this also happens when I don't touch the keyboard at all. Keeping any key pressed results in mad flickering with the horizontal distortion going up and down like crazy, without the cpu showing any sign of fatigue. What puzzles me the most is that I have the same problem in an xfce session BUT NOT in a kde session. KDE is rock solid. Is seems to me that xorg shouldn't be the culprit, but then? I thought maybe the wm could be given the blame, but the fact that the problem stays unchanged with metacity, sawfish AND xfwm4 make me uncertain. So I'm using kde at the moment, but I much prefer the gnome environment, so I'd like to fix this asap. I'm not posting any detail on my hw & sw configuration, because I don't really know what could be relevant. If you have an idea, I'll be happy to provide any detail.
