I think that my experice lines up quite well with Ron's one, since I use a 2nd Generation iPod, an HD in an ADS Tech DLX-185 enclosure and my iBook (in Target Mode) with my desktop computer without any problems. With USB, OTOH, I had some nightmares that lasted for quite a long time debugging with Alan Stern (one of the USB kernel hackers).
