If you have no LaTeX experience at all, a good book to get is "LaTeX: A Document Preparation System" by Leslie Lamport (the original developer of LaTeX). After that, or if you already have some LaTeX experience, a good reference is either "The LaTeX Companion" or "Guide to LaTeX." Personally, I prefer the latter, however it is really a matter of personal preference.
