Hi

I have made several attempts of installing Debian on a quite new
embedded system, the Kontron X-board (www.get-x-board.com). Amazing
piece of hw, credit-card size, 266MHz National Semiconductor Geode 1200
processor, 128MB ram, 128MB compact-flash (although the install is made
to a second CF of 512MB size), graphics, network, ... :)

The install fails during the step of installing the base system, when
downloading the base packages. The computer appears to lock at some
random place during the download, after which the keyboard is dead.

I suspect flaky hw because there was two bad solderings we had to fix.
But after that it ran MS XP stably for a week....
Then I took command of it, and initiated installs with floppies, 3.0.23
and 3.0.24 of idepci and bf2.4. Most combinations of install to 512MB CF
or 40GB IDE, all fail.

The built in eth is an Intel 82557/82558, with the receiver lockup bug
(workaround enabled).
Checking (before installing base-packages) with dmesg I see several
messages from the ide-driver: drive_cmd status 0x51, 0x54, both for
external CF and on-board CF! and also messages of disk changes detected,
when there have been no disk changes or use of cfdisk.

any comments or ideas welcome,
Anders
