Thanks for all the quick replies. I managed to solve the problem by downloading vnc4server with aptitude. It created a 'xtartup' script in the $HOME/.vnc/ directory automatically, and also uses it. This means that it's running before login - ie. you get a login screen when you run the vnc client... If this is what you want, I'll post the configs... It will be very nice.
