Debian "x86" packages are all compiled for i386 (with the exception, I think of a few C++ libraries, which are compiled for i486). This is for 2 reasons: 1. Performance gains realized by targeting sub-architectures is minimal. 2. Building repositories for binaries targeted at i386, 686, Athlon, etc, would triple (or more) the amount of disk space needed, and triple the amount of time needed to do the builds themselves. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Ron Johnson, Jr. Jefferson, LA USA PGP Key ID 8834C06B I prefer encrypted mail.
