OK, I just took a picture and plugged in my camera. http://members.cox.net/ron.l.johnson/gthumb_import.png The "Import Photos" window of this "window print" explicitly shows that you can specify the destination. Eyeballing the output of "$ ps aux | grep $USER" showed that the process is "gthumb --import-photos".
