Hello! a recurrent problem i have but since i don not often print documents that hold more than 2-3 pages i notice it not really often...
nevertheless, now i had again to print out a 50 page document, and as usual it happenend again... the source is a pdf file, thats AFAIK, nearly the same as a ps file,so, no big conversion problems i think, since the printer is a HP Laserjet 5N (supposedly a PS printer i think?) besides i have the same problem with ps alone... even tried to downscale the ps to v1, but didn't change anything... send the stuff down through lpr, and as usual, 3 pages, and nothing more... thought oh well, that problem again, and went on without a paper copy of that thing, since the hassle of dequeuing the job, sending a new one with the missing pages, dequing the thing again after a few pages, resending the missing pages etc is a real pain.... and forgot the fact that i wanted to print that document.... that was yesterday.... now oh great surprise, the printer awakens, and spits out 10 more pages.... heh i still do not have the complete document, but hey maybe in a week or 2 i could have the printout... supposing i don't need the printer for some other job in the meantime..... despite the fact that this is pretty annoying and useless... i would really know what's happening there.... following the suggestion from some friends i made the step from bsd style lpd to lprng... with exactly the same result... the printer i use is the 3rd one from a pile of used printers, and is behaving exatly like the others..... so i am really wondering what's wrong here.... this whole matter is simply weird.... my 1.3GHz Athlon should be able to feed the printer orders of magnitude faster than what the printer might handle.... the fact that several printers, even if old, behave the same way, let me suppose its not some hardware fault on the printer side.... lpq gives: Printer: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Queue: 1 printable job Server: pid 23907 active Unspooler: pid 23908 active Status: waiting for subserver to exit at 14:25:57.233 Filter_status: lp is ready and printing Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time stalled(84897sec) [EMAIL PROTECTED] A 904 /home/bboett/manual 583181 14:55:57 the printcap: lp:\ »·······:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\ »·······:mx#0:\ »·······:sh:\ »·······:lp=/dev/lp0:\ »·······:if=/usr/lib/printfilters/master-filter:\ »·······:ppdfile=/usr/share/postscript/ppd/HP_LaserJet_5.ppd:\ »·······:PAPERSIZE=a4:\ »·······:DESIRED_TO=ps:\ »·······:PRINTER_TYPE=LOCAL:\ »·······:ASCII_TO_PS=YES:\ »·······:GSDEVICE=ljet4:\ »·······:RESOLUTION=600x600:\ »·······:PS_SEND_EOF=YES:\ »·······:NUP=1:\ »·······:RTLFTMAR=18:\ »·······:TOPBOTMAR=18:\ »·······:TEXT_SEND_EOF=NO: and concerning the processes: daemon 23907 0.0 0.1 3764 1016 ?
