think about most apps you use. How many really depend on the CPU oomph once they are running? Most apps are user or i/o bound, especially in the GUI. I think it makes sense to have a few critical parts optimized -- glibc, X, etc. Optimizing gnome-panel or xclock seems like a waste of time. Also a pentium optmized bin may be less useful under say a AMD Duron proc.
