I regularly use apt to update or install new packages to my testing system - since I have a dial-up connection, I avoid days-long "dist-upgrade"s, and just "update" then "install" package by package according to need.
In the last few days, apt has been reporting "E: Fatal, conflicts..." errors, and I can't determine what is causing this. For example, if I try to install "dia" I get a total of 69 "E: Fatal, conflicts..." errors, mostly with packages which have no clear dependency relationship with "dia" (see below), so I'm not sure where the problem lies. I then tried "-s dist-upgrade" which returns the following: Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Calculating Upgrade... Failed Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies: libguile6: Conflicts: guile-lib but it is not installable Conflicts: scwm (<= 0.8a-8) but it is not installable E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages. I don't have scwm installed, and I tried "-s install libguile6", but I get: Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Sorry, libguile6 is already the newest version. 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 327 not upgraded. dpkg -l libguile6 shows: Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-==============-==============-============================================ ii libguile6 1.3.4-2 `libguile.so.6' shared libraries for Guile1. I have tried "dpkg --audit" which reports no partially installed packages, and I don't believe there are any held packages. I'm stuck here, don't know what's causing the problem or how to solve it. I will be grateful for any help. Thanks, Tomasz ****************************************** output of "apt-get -s install dia", in case it's helpful Reading Package Lists...
