Hello, I'm not shure if it will work, but i think (only an idea) it's because of lilo. So try to start your root system with the rescue cdrom or floppy: mount /dev/rootpartition /mnt chroot /mnt lilo exit umount reboot Maybe you can find in these documents something useful: /usr/share/doc/lilo/README.common.problems /usr/share/doc/lilo/Manual.txt.gz There are some tools who can doing a disk to disk copy or backup partimage - Linux/UNIX utility to save partitions in a compressed image file mondo http://www.microwerks.net/~hugo cpio ?
