Not really a solution, more another way of looking at it... Have you thought of setting up a caching nameserver on your gateway? If you point exim at that (using resolv.conf), it won't ever dial up while trying to resolve. I currently use bind9, but if you don't need to resolve local hostnames (and I guess you don't, since you don't have a name server there), you might want to try pdnsd or something similar that can't do anything by themselves aside from forward and cache requests. -rob
