Well you could use the Gnus news and e-mail package, which is wonderful http://my.gnus.org/ for advice on how to set up and a tutorial. DO look at this before you try it. Gnus can be hard work to set up, but its worth it! Or there is VM as a mailreader. You should have a version of these with your Emacs/Xemacs.
