Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately that's not the problem. Sorry if I wasn't precise enough. I can get back to vt7 (via the various options); it's just that the X-server will not refresh it's screen when I do return to vt7. It's just black. So returning there (in whatever fashion) does me know good. So, it's as if the X-server no longer knows to come up for air. Or whatever.
