Ok, I finally got the permissions for /var/lock to change; I did it by changing the permissions for the partition then rebooting then changing them for /var/lock. My other pardirectories in /var have stayed with the same partitions as they haed before. However, the number after the permission letters when doing a "ls -l" was a 5 for /var/lock before; now it's a 2 and on the other machine i'm working on for somebody it's a "3". And dosemu still isn't working my com ports as user, though I haven't run it with -D+a -o file to see if the cause is till the same.
