Yeah, Your probably trying to install it on a woody or sid system. ximian supposedly only works on potato system. The problem is that potato is so old that it is becomeing truly unstable. Though on the plus side, woody's gnome packages are just as good as ximian's. You should probably go with those. I hope I helped a bit.
