Thats a weird problem. I have used mutt on and off for four years and never seen that. However it is a console app and so its display can get screwed up if the console is weird or chages size (dependant on the console being used).
I you running mutt in X ? If so what terminal are you using (rxvt, konsole ?) and what windowmanager. Are you using a non standard character set ? Pat
