I presume that you mean to run minicom on the "other" system.
In his case, would he need to run minicom, since he's plugging
a terminal directly into COM1?

(I do agree, though, that an ASCII terminal has it's limitations.
Running a cable between from the firewall to another machine
at home and then running minicom would be much more practical,
since you can scroll back history.)

Also, there's the side issues of whether the mobo requires a 
keyboard and video card to be plugged in.  Most do.
