I assume that if you get it working under X in lovely hardware accelerated 3D,
you probably wont want to run the svgalib version at all.

so, do you have this is your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 ?

I think you might need that.

Also, can you try a smaller simpler OpenGL program to see if that works ?
Perhaps you can find one that gives an error message instead of segfaulting ?
