Few options exist for CD-R(W) on Debian. 1) activate required kernel module 1-a) use "insmod" or "modprobe" to activate modules without reboot 1-b) list modules in /etc/modules and reboot 2) recompile kernel and reboot Read Debian reference "1.9.3 CD-RW basic setup" and "7.3 CD-writer" for more info.
