Thank you Mark.  I have now gotten one step closer to using the file.

I cannot thank you and a large number of other Debian people enough.  SInce I 
begin using Debian about 6-7 years ago, I have seldom run into a question, 
issue, or problem that wasn't answered within hours.  

I shyly waited for many months before breaking down and contacting the list.  I 
searched in vain many times, and tried many things to open that file.  Now, in 
hours, the answer is in hand.
