That's because an IDE cdrom will be automagically recognized as /dev/hdX, where X = a for primary master, b for primary slave etc. (ide driver is compiled into the kernel). If you have a scsi cdrom, you'll need to load the driver (module) for your scsi card. If you have a really old cdrom plugged into the sound card, you'll need a custom kernel with appropriate driver. > Any help is much appreciated.
