I think about coping the base filesystem tgz(?) files to the zip disk.
Then boot with tomsrtbt, load the zip driver, prepare the disk etc.
Then you can unpack the basefilesystem to your disk, configure a few files
like fstab, chroot into the filesystem, run lilo reboot and hopefully you're
able to run dselect or apt.

Maybe this works, it's just a short thought about how it might be possible.

Another way might be to put a kernel with the drivers on into the bootdisks.
