Please describe what you did to "change the root partition to ext3" Did you make the filesystems/ext3 option a module or installed in the kernel? It can't be a module!
Rather then pick apart your procedures here is what I did to change all partitions to ext3. Install kernel-2.4.17, make oldconfig, save, make menuconfig and select filesystems/ext3 with 'y'. Compiled the kernel & modules, installed bzImage into /boot and changed lilo.conf to agree. Rebooted the system. did-> tune2fs -j /dev/hda? for each partition did-> tune2fs -i 0 /dev/hda? again for each partition Edited /etc/fstab and changed all references of ext2 to either ext3 or auto. rebooted again. The 2 reboots may have been overkill but I screwed up on another box and had a dickins of a time fixing it. The above prevented any screw up on my part on the next box. :-) HTH, YMMV, HAND :-) -- Of course I know how to copy disks. Where's the xerox machine? _______________________________________________________
