I don't know, what's wrong either, :( I filed a bugreport to
console-data.
The only thing, what helped was:
save the /var/cache/debonf/config.dat to config.dat.bak (or so)
delete all console-* entries in config.dat
try dpkg --configure -a
Worked for me on PPC and Sparc ....
