Not quite the same, but the general technique worked:
grep vga /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.dir vga.pcf.gz
-dosemu-vga-medium-r-normal--17-160-75-75-p-80-ibm-cp437
then
aterm -fn -dosemu-vga-medium-r-normal--17-160-75-75-p-80-ibm-cp437
works a charm
