Hello,

I will be installing Debian/sid on several machines. They will probably be internet-connected when I install them. At the moment the LAN is NOT connected to the Internet, waiting for an ADSL line installation.

I already have a Debian/potato installed on the same LAN.

I created from an internet-connected machine a Debian/sid CD-set.

What is the best procedure to install the SID machines?

a) Using the CD set I created, on every machine. Feasible (qty: 2 ~ 10)

b) Set up a local mirror using the CD-set.

c) Other.

In cases b and c: How to do it? (I am fairly experienced on Debian, but never did that).

What is the best procedure to keep the machines up to date?

a) Direct update from the official mirrors using APT. Possible, as they are directly connected.

b) Use a local mirror.

c) Other

Again, in cases b and c, I do not know how to do it.

Well, using a local mirror to update instead of the official ones is trivial. The question is how to set up the local mirror, and how to keep it up to date.

I imagine that setting up a local mirror should be more bandwidth-friendly.

Also, once the mirror is installed, how can I limit the bandwidth it uses? I have heard of tc+iproute2, tried it, but with no great success. I'd really love that to work. If someone can point me to the right direction, that will be very, very nice.

Thank you all!

Antonio Fiol
