In addition to these methods, you have a fourth method in Debian...dpkg-reconfigure. The command for the xserver-xfree86 would be "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86". This will bring up the Debconf config screen(s) you may have seen during the initial install of Woody. I read somewhere this is the preferred method in Debian.
