Recent versions of lilo have /boot/boot.b as a symlink to /boot/boot-menu.b, which gives you the color menu. To get the plain menu back, you can either use 'install=/boot/boot-text.b' in /etc/lilo.conf, or change the /boot/boot.b symlink to point to /boot/boot-text.b
