Mandrake 8 runs a 2.4 kernel, AFAIK. The MDK installer formatted the filesystem as ReiserFS 3.6. However, the 2.2 kernels can only recognize up to ReiserFS 3.5. 2.2 kernels can't mount ReiserFS partitions ver. 3.5 (made by reiserfsprogs 3.6 that normally goes with distros running 2.4) In order to mount a ReiserFS 3.6 FS, you need to install a 2.4.x kernel.
