What kernel version are you using? Do you have "apm=on" on the kernel command line? ("cat /proc/cmdline" to check) I didn't know about the "poweroff" command, but it is just a symlink to /sbin/halt which is what I use. -D -- the nice thing about windoze is - it does not just crash, it displays a dialog box and lets you press 'ok' first.
