Potato is the current "stable" release, and as such is not updated with
new releases. XFree86 4.1 is available in the Woody (testing) and Sid
(unstable) branches. Woody will be the next "stable" release when it's
ready. I don't know when that will be.

Ah. I don't know how easy it would be to make Woody's XFree86 packages
work on Potato. You might be best off just migrating to Woody.

dselect can be annoying. Unfortunately it's the best interface we have.
There are others (aptitude, deity), but I don't think very many people
use them. I don't think deity is even still being developed.
