i saw somewhere(forget where it was about 6 months ago) that changing the kernel source: asm-i386/pram.h - define HZ 1000 rather then 100 (note the above applies to kernel 2.2, don't know about 2.4 as i wont go near it for a long time) could provide a noticable boost in responsiveness to a desktop system. i don't know what it does, and haven't tried it yet myself, but it may be worth a shot .. re-compiling apps for specific cpus probably won't gain you much. infact you may lose some things like stability. there are some exceptions probably like multimedia and of course the kernel. with a 1.3gig cpu i don't see a need to go out of my way to tune apps to run faster..they just do! nate
