You put a line like this in your sources.list: # Blackdown Java deb http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.blackdown.org/java-linux/debian woody non-free And then apt-get update && apt-get install j2re1.3 Which will give you a Java Runtime Environment.
