If you're looking for cheap, reasonably good and easy to install cards, I could surely recommend a card with the Realtek 8139 10/100mbit chipset. Allmost all cheap 10/100mbit cards have this chip, and work fantastic. Off course, being 2 to 3 times cheaper than e.g. a 3Com card, you shouldn't expect smashing performance. You get what you pay for.
I also have a pci 3com 905 100mbit card. It seems a bit faster, and installation was equaly easy. But it's a lot more expensive.
