Have you tried just grabbing the tarballs direct from nVidia's servers and installing them by hand? Works everytime for me. That said, I haven't used 2.4.12 - I'm languishing back in the "good ol' days" of 2.4.9 - not sure if that makes any difference. Good luck, David.
