My cable modem provider, RCN, told me today that my linux box, which runs dhcp client, sent out false information to RCN's dhcp server in such a way that the dhcp server still thought the IP taken by my linux box was free. That caused other RCN customers unable to connect to the network due to IP conflict. They also told me that they found there are bugs in linux dhcp software and I must download some patches to fix it. But they didnot tell me where to get patches. RCN also warned me that they would shut down my account if the problem is not solved.
Does any of you know of any bugs in pump/dhcp-client/dhcpcd? Also, can someone tell me which client package is the most stable one? I believe my computer uses pump by default. I installed debian potato. Thank you in advance, joe
