This

-Adobe-Helvetica-Medium-R-Normal--10-100-75-75-P-56-ISO8859-1
or
-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-*-100-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1

(Actual Font Name and Requested Font Name -- from 'User Font' section of
Gnome's theme selector)

has always been my *default* font. I'm even using the 'Use custom font'
option and not the one the theme author chose. I'm calling out the full
name, with iso8859-1 spec'd. I still had the same problem many, many
people are running into. Can you explain ??
