Hi all, Quick intro and then a question :P. My name is Christy, and I have been using computers since about 1994 back when dos was popular :P. So I'm familiar with command line work. I've done a little fooling around with Linux, mostly redhat until recently, but this is the furthest I've ever gotten with it. I know the basics of how to work it as a user, but still getting familiar with the admin parts... So basically I'll be asking some real newbie questions, and if I need to take them to another list just let me know where.
Now for my question. We, being my roommate and I, are running three computers from a hub. Our ISP is road runner, which is a cable modem setup with dynamic IP addresses. I signed up for dyndns.org, which is a free service that allows a static hostname to be assigned to a dynamic ip address. You can update your ip address with them from the web site, but there are also clients that are supposed to be able to update the ip address automatically. Well, one such client is called ddclient, and I downloaded it. I installed it, but I'm running into two problems. One, I can't get it to update the ip address, two I can't get it to run automatically. Basically, I can't figure out how to get the dang thing to work *grins*. Anyone familiar with using this that wouldn't mind walking a newbie through it? Thanks in advance for any help Christy
