Following Ano Nim, I created /home/.xinitrc with the text icewm and,lo and behold, when I start Debian, I still get enlightenment.
I am not sure what to do with the meassage from Stephen Gran. I downloaded the attachment and have a binary file that I don't know how to handle. The gnome instructions say that enlightenment is the only window manager that it is fully compatible with.
