If this is completely obvious, please disregard.  However,
I saw several posts regarding getting kde to use anti-aliased
truetype fonts.  Here is what I did (with sid):

apt-get install anti-aliasing-howto msttcorefonts

After it is installed, just add the true type directory to
/etc/X11/XftConfig.  Eg:
...
dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"
...

Make sure anti-aliasing is enabled in the Fonts preferences and
it should work fine (at least it did for me).  I am using kde
2.2.1 from sid.  

BTW, I have always used gnome/sawmill or icewm and never liked 
kde, but kde 2.2.1 is REALLY cool and everyone should at least 
check it out.  It was a big improvement over 2.1.x on my system.
