"giving me errors" is not helpfull.

I have some 3com 3c509 10/100 cards and they work fine with the
vortex/bomerang driver.

use modconf and try various 3com drivers till you find one that loads.
[or, use lspci or cat /proc/pci and work out what  exactly you have and
therefore what module you need]
