Hi, I'm having some difficulty printing to my new printer. I have a P2-333 based system running Debian 2.2r2, using the default 2.2.17 kernel. I recently bought an Epson Stylus Color 777 and am trying to get it running (through the parallel port). I have printed when booted to Win95 without problem, so I know the hardware is fine.
I'm not yet at the stage of needing to set up lpd; I can't directly send anything to the printer. Looking at my procfs, I have /proc/interrupts CPU0 0: 248460 XT-PIC timer 1: 7109 XT-PIC keyboard 2: 0 XT-PIC cascade 5: 1 XT-PIC soundblaster 7: 879307 XT-PIC parport0 8: 1 XT-PIC rtc 10: 7154 XT-PIC sym53c8xx 11: 2906 XT-PIC eth0 12: 44790 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse 13: 1 XT-PIC fpu 14: 910 XT-PIC ide0 NMI: 0 /proc/modules lp 5188 0 parport_probe 3332 0 parport_pc 7236 1 parport 7280 1 [lp parport_probe parport_pc] af_packet 6040 2 (autoclean) ppp 20684 2 (autoclean) slhc 4436 0 (autoclean) [ppp] tulip 29856 1 (autoclean) lockd 31112 1 (autoclean) sunrpc 52420 1 (autoclean) [lockd] nls_cp437 3904 2 (autoclean) serial 19564 0 (autoclean) sb 33396 0 (unused) uart401 6128 0 [sb] sound 57592 0 [sb uart401] soundlow 416 0 [sound] soundcore 2628 6 [sb sound] vfat 9008 0 (unused) hpfs 8552 0 (unused) unix 10212 96 (autoclean) /proc/devices Character devices: 1 mem 2 pty 3 ttyp 4 ttyS 5 cua 6 lp 7 vcs 10 misc 14 sound 29 fb 128 ptm 136 pts Block devices: 1 ramdisk 2 fd 3 ide0 7 loop 8 sd 9 md 11 sr 36 ed 65 sd /proc/parport/0/hardware base: 0x378 irq: 7 dma: none modes: SPP,ECP,ECPEPP,ECPPS2 /proc/parport/0/autoprobe CLASS:PRINTER; MODEL:Stylus COLOR 777; MANUFACTURER:EPSON; DESCRIPTION:EPSON Stylus COLOR 777; COMMAND SET:ESCPL2,BDC,D4; /proc/parport/0/devices lp /proc/parport/0/irq 7 Yet, if i simply type (as root): cat text_file > /dev/lp0 or for that matter cat text_file > /dev/par0 nothing happens. I have also tried gs @stcany.upp -dSAFER -sOutputFile=/dev/lp0 ps_file -c quit which also does nothing. Lastly, I tried to print a test page from apsfilterconfig. It wrote the page to /tmp and sent it, but nothing ever came out of the printer. What may I have missed?
