That's what it seems like to me, but it's weird as no-one has used it (I'm the only one with root). It just stopped working. ---------- >try ifconfig eth0 up yup, no difference. ---------- just to recap, when I ping I now get 'Operation not permitted' I cannot ping from another machine on the network, so I deduce the networking is not responding to requests.
