hi ya extremely hard to protect a server if people have physical access to it... - they can just pull thepower cord... - they can hit ctrl-alt-delete ( remove that option from /etc/inittab if you dont like anyone rebooting it )
- they can pull nic wires ... nothing you can do.. - you can xlock your console ( they'd need passwd to get in ) - they can pop up other virtual consoles... - dont leave any virtual consoles open - if you are worried about dataloss... - prevent physical access to unauthorized users - if not possible..move the server and/or programs and apps to a server that is locked up and they'd need a regular door key to get to it c ya alvin On Mon, 3 Sep 2001, Robert Waldner wrote: > > On Mon, 03 Sep 2001 15:33:50 EDT, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > >Hi, I'm running a server in a public location, and the applications running > >on the server run in their own virtual console (or an xterm window). > >However, > >if someone came up and closed the xterm or hit ^C they could cancel the > >server operation, which risks data loss, server failure, etc., and they > >would > >also have full access to every aspect of the user account the server is run > >on. > > > >Is there a good way to keep others from messing with the server? > > While thereĀ“s no real way without removing the physical access, but > xlockmore et al would spring to mind ;-) > > cheers, > &rw > -- > -- Russell Foster: "Tell me $DEITY what have I done to deserve this?" > -- David P.
