It all depends on how open/closed you want to be. With a dial-up line it is not likely (though still possible) that someone will send packets to your machine. A good rule-of-thumb for security is to start with everything closed, then open only the stuff you want open. There are really good IPCHAINS and Firewall hotows on linuxdoc.org. -D
