This suggests memory problem (but may not be). These kinds of problems can be very hard to find. I would first use memtest86 to test your memory. If that is fine, I would look at the pci cards. I had random crashes that I could not find, until I swapped out the video card for another. Before swapping it out, it worked fine except after a few days (and some stress)-- crash. I am not saying it is your video card, just using that as an example. Often you can just move the pci cards around and this can go away. Sometimes certain hardware doesn't like to be with other hardware, and you have to find the hardware that doesn't play well. Compiling the kernel is a big stress test on your system, and compiling kernel 2.4 is a different stress test than kernel 2.2-- so that is why one works and one doesn't. Another thing to look into is making sure you have enough fans and your system isn't running too hot. But don't run out and buy anything until you exhaust the free options (memory test, swapping cards), otherwise you will spend a lot of money and still have the same problem-- talking from personal experience. ;-) Jamie Strandboge -- "The goal of Computer Science is to build something that will last at least until we've finished building it." -- Author unknown Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG/PGP Public Key ID: 26384A3A GPG/PGP Fingerprint: D9FF DF4A 2D46 A353 A289 E8F5 AA75 DCBE 2638 4A3A
